MCS keeps the Nine Network on the air

Late last year the Nine Network in Adelaide completed its move from its Tynte Street studio to its new CBD studio and offices at 169 Pirie Street, Adelaide.

MCS Distribution products keep Network Nine Adelaide on the airIt took a year to prepare and fit out the Hindmarsh Square building, including an Adelaide “first”: a glass-fronted studio at street level to allow the public to view Nine News live and see the studio in operation.

“These new premises are a game-changer for Nine and provide the opportunity for our business to be the pre-eminent media brand in the heart of the CBD,” said Nine Adelaide’s Managing Director, Sean O’Brien.

“It has been a complex project with more than 27,000 man-hours behind it that has involved extending the building facade, the installation of more than 100kms of cables, upgrading the power supply, a new data centre linking Nine News to the world, new signage, studio, and modern facilities for all employees.

“We have also procured new technology including robotic studio and remote fixed cameras.

“To say we are excited about our new home is an understatement. With our ratings position stronger than ever we are now equipped to set the benchmark with technology, community engagement and innovation.”

We were honoured to be involved in the refurbishment, providing uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and computer room air conditioning (CRAC) to keep Nine Adelaide connected to the rest of the world.

We will soon be providing similar products to the Nine Network in Perth.

Emerson helps Facebook design rapid deployment data center

Emerson Network Power (ENP) is working with Facebook to develop new building techniques as they jointly design and build the social media giant’s second data center in Luleå, Sweden.  The new site, Luleå 2, is to be the pilot for Facebook’s new rapid deployment data centre (RDDC) technique, a project on which ENP’s data center design team collaborated.

Facebook’s RDDC uses modular design elements, including pre-fabricated materials and on-site assembly.  The guiding principle, according to Scott Barbour, global business leader of Emerson Network Power, is to speed installation and cut the amount of materials used.

“We worked with Facebook to understand their wants and needs, and we collectively developed an integrated, cost-effective, tailored solution,” said Barbour.  “This collaboration with Facebook illustrates our competence in modular construction and shows next-generation thinking.”

Facebook is open to collaboration with vendors, it said.  “We are always looking for ways to optimize our data centers – that includes accelerating build times and reducing material use,” said Jay Park, director of data center design, Facebook.

Luleå 2 will span approximately 125,000 sq. ft. and Emerson will deliver over 250 shippable modules, including power skids, evaporative air handlers, a water treatment plant and data center superstructure solutions.  It will be built next to Facebook’s first data center building in Luleå, which came online in June 2013.

Facebook claimed that Luleå 2 will be one of the most efficient and sustainable data centers in the world, powered by 100% renewable energy and featuring the latest in Open Compute Project server, storage, mechanical, and electrical designs.
