While the majority of Australian new car sales still use either petrol or diesel engines, at government level, there is growing pressure to encourage the adoption of EVs (electric vehicles). In Adelaide, this trend is being fuelled (pardon the pun) by local government with many councils installing EV charging stations across their local government area.
The Future Fuels Fund has approved $24.55m in funding to applicants across 19 projects to expand Australia’s fast charging network for electric vehicles. These first round funds represent an increase of $8.05m more than originally planned due to the strength of applicants.
The funded charging stations will be located in 14 of Australia’s most populous cities and regional areas as part of a $71.9m initiative to remove barriers to the uptake of EV vehicles.
In addition, many local councils around South Australia are installing public EV charging stations subsidised by JOLT, a European company which specialises in fast charger infrastructure. For users of the charging stations, costs for recharging their vehicles is often subsidised by the local council.
You can expect to see more EV chargers around Adelaide and major regional centres in the very near future. Once the infrastructure is in place, the number of EV vehicles will quickly escalate.

According to a report from McKinsey & Company, global sales of electric vehicles (EV) currently account for approx. 2.8% of light vehicle sales. However, research conducted by Deloitte indicates global EV sales will grow to about 32% by 2030.
Here in Australia, the Future Fuels Fund and many South Australian local councils are rolling out a fast charging network. (See article below for more information.)

Interestingly, Tritium now exports its EV chargers to 41 countries. It claims its chargers are located in regions that reach minimum temperatures of -35°C and maximum temperatures of +50°C. Consider a hospital’s operating theatres, intensive care units or emergency departments; these areas require constant power to treat critically ill people.

MCS worked with the consulting engineer to provide the best in class power protection solution for the hospital. Working closely with the electrical contractor, our team successfully supplied and commissioned a 120kW modular UPS system with seven 20kW power modules and a 60kVA external transformer. While the hospital upgrade is still in progress, our UPS is now fully installed and commissioned. All feedback from the contractor has been positive to date. When asked, the director of the electrical contractor had this to say:
‘MCS were successful in winning the UPS package for the Hospital upgrade project supplying a 120kVA system. Their service throughout the construction phase was excellent with constant communication and updates on the progress of procurement. The commissioning went well with client training and the final set-up of the system transitioning smoothly.
